Sir,
Hongkong, 11th. November, 1913.
With reference to your letter of the 31st. ultimo handed to me by the Postmaster-General I beg to state as follows:-
1.
That I received 867.80 in cash in re D. A. Cordeiro, deceased, under a long sanctioned practice of the Registry and with
the knowledge and express consent of Mr. S. B. B. McElderry, the
Deputy Registrar in the Registry.
2.
That I applied the said 867.80 as it became due and payable and when I could conveniently attend to pay the same.
3.
That I received in cash on or about the following dates namely, the 12th. September, 1912, 16th. April, 1913, 17th.
April, 1913, 19th. May, 1913, and 27th. May, 1913, the following
Bung viz.:- $14.80, $11.50, $13.20, 89.20 and 84.80 in respect
·
of the estates of Li Ah Shru, deceased, Shek Fuk, deceased, Nam Ly
Sing, deceased, Essah Noorsha, decessed, and Chan Low Ying,
deceased, respectively. I received these sure in cash also under
the aforesaid long sanctioned practice of the Registry and with the knowledge and consent of the Registrar and the Deputy Registrar
of the Supreme Court.
4.
That I was on the 30th, of June, 1913, and a still
under the impression that I was under no obligation to account
the Registrar of the Supreme Court for the following sums, viz.t-
88.00, 811.50, $13.20, and 89.20 because the work in respect of
which I received these sums of money formed no part of my duty,
but that I undertook to do the work for the parties concerned as a
private individual with the knowledge and consent of the Registrar
of the "upreme Court and his Deputies. The 84.80 were omitted to
be paid to the Postmaster-General #1x1 and accounted for to the
Registrar of the Supreme Court through oversight on my part for which I regret. But the Registrar would have discovered this
omission on the 30th. of June, 1913, if he would not have refused
to check my work on that date when requested to do so by me. It
